Education of Yesterday and Today’s Learning
Education of Yesterday and Today’s Learning
Why is education and learning important for every human being? Education is an important tool that helps an individual work for a better future. When we say education, it is the continuous process of learning things – from simple knowledge to complex information.
As the world’s population is growing, the number of people who value the importance of education is increasing as well. However, some people believe that the quality of education in former times is incomparable to the quality of education today. But this is the opposite of what some scholars say today; due to modernization and globalization, education today is far more excellent than the education before. Thus, the learning of students nowadays is great, fast, and efficient. It is most likely that if the quality of education is excellent, the contribution of learning to the students has a great impact as well
But, what is the difference between systems of education in former times, and systems of education of today?
Today, the possibilities of students to gain knowledge are greater than before. Some modern educators believe that although the system of education of today is efficient, the majority of modern students have no discipline, poor work ethics, and are not very interested in learning about useful information. We should not generalize.
When it comes to education, it is not just about learning the actual knowledge of science, arts, law, or politics, but also absorbing and learning good manners and values.
A different way of teaching can be a huge piece of the solution to get students from compliance to creativity, from rigidity to innovation.
In the very beginning schools were designed like some factories. Students were expected to memorize facts and numbers in order to prove their intelligence and get some advantages.
But the biggest challenge is that the traditional school model doesn’t seem to be enough anymore. Our students must be taught a different set of skills.
In recent years it has become increasingly clear that basic reading, writing and arithmetic are not enough. The importance of 21st century non-cognitive skills – broadly defined as abilities important for social interaction – is pronounced.
Making sure people are taught the right skills early in their childhood is much more effective than trying to improve skills in adulthood for people who were let down by their school system. But even when primary education is of high quality, skills decline in adulthood if they are not used regularly.
Lifelong learning, even simple reading at home and number crunching at work, helps to slow the rate of age-related skill decline; but mainly for those who are highly skilled already.
Technology can provide new pathways into developing world, but is no panacea. There is little evidence that technology alone helps individuals actually develop new skills.
There are 8 Skills For a Modern Education modern skills for modern students:
1. Leadership
2. Digital Literacy
3. Communication
4. Emotional Intelligence
5. Entrepreneurship
6. Global Citizenship
7. Problem-solving
8. Team-working
The contribution of modernization and globalization plays a big role in the education system of today. Due to the growth of globalization , there is a wide scope of learning and knowledge that is being contributed to the learning ability of students.
Moreover, nowadays students can themselves participate in a foreign institution even without taking part in the actual classroom scenario. The advantages of online education are numerous; thus it allows students to complete their learning work at their own pace, for example
It may be true that the systems of education before and today are a bit different; whatever may be the differences, however, both of these systems are vital for the student’s future. The main thing that actually affects the education system of every generation is the continuous and rapid growth of technology.
The topic of the 21st century skills is on the main priorities list to be discussed and understood.
